The concrete castle boasts 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces and more than 200 windows of varying size and shape. The interior walls, floors and ceilings are elaborately adorned with an incredible array of Mercer’s original handcrafted tiles. Recently featured on A&E’s "America’s Castles". Mercer Museum - Towering castle houses dramatic displays of the implements, folk art and furnishings of early America before mechanization. Walk into the Central Court and see a Conestoga wagon, whaling boat, carriages and an antique fire engine suspended overhead. There are 40,000 tools of more than 60 early American crafts and trades displayed. Constructed in 1916, it is a National Historic Landmark. James A. Michener Art Museum - In 1988, with the support of many dedicated citizens, the James A. Michener Art Museum opened as an independent, non-profit cultural institution dedicated to preserving, interpreting and exhibiting the art and cultural heritage of the Bucks County region. The Museum is named for Doylestown’s most famous son, the Pulitzer-Prize winning writer and supporter of the arts who had first dreamed of a regional art museum in the early 1960’s. The Moland family’s farmhouse was built of stone in 1750. In 1777 George Washington made it his headquarters during a 13-day encampment. During that time, Marquis de Lafayette, 19, joined the Continental Army. They kept watch from the farmhouse for British Army scouts and prepared for battle. When George Washington and the Continental Army left the Moland house, they came upon a path which led them to the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown. Moravian Pottery and Tile Workshop - The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, a National Historic Landmark, is maintained as a "working history" museum by Pennsylvania’s County of Bucks, Department of Parks and Recreation. Handmade tiles are still produced in a manner similar to that developed by the pottery’s founder and builder, Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930). Mercer was a major proponent of the Arts & Crafts Movement in America. He directed the work at the pottery from 1898 until his death in 1930. National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa (The) - The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa occupies approximately 170 acres of land. Located on Beacon Hill, and overlooking Peace Valley, the Shrine is the perfect place to come and spend time in prayer and reflection. The Parry Mansion - built in 1784 by Benjamin Parry, one of New Hope’s founders. Until it was purchased by the New Hope Historical Society in 1966. Main St., New Hope, PA 18938. Pearl S. Buck House - Originally built in 1835, the Bucks County, Pennsylvania farmhouse was home to Pearl S. Buck and her international family for 38 years. Today, visitors to the National Historic Landmark experience a unique blend of Chinese and 19th Century Pennsylvanian traditions of art and architecture. The tour includes a display of many of Ms. Buck’s literary and humanitarian awards, including the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes for literature. Parks: Nockamixon State Park - In southeastern Pennsylvania, the name Nockamixon is synonymous with outdoor activities.
